Relaxation Zones on Campus
Lakeland has created two indoor and two outdoor relaxation zones where students can unwind, de-stress, engage in arts and crafts activities, meditate, and explore wellness apps. The indoor relaxation zones are located in A-2110 and the Lakeland Library. Outdoor relaxation zones are located near the Mindladders sculpture outside Breakers and in the main campus courtyard under the trees.
Other existing wellness zones at Lakeland include the Athletic and Fitness Center, Lakeland Cares Cupboard, H-building third floor greenhouse and rooftop garden, and Mooreland gardens, to name a few. Take some time to explore spaces on Lakelands campus that can contribute to your wellness.
We can all benefit from wellness activities every day, especially during stressful times. Lakeland students are invited to access our online guide that offers a wide range of mental health and resilience information and resources. This collection of reliable and helpful websites and videos was compiled and created by Lakeland's Mental Health Task Force.

Psychological services are available to help you succeed in pursuing your education when personal, emotional, or mental health difficulties are interfering with your learning. Our campus psychologist, Dr. Ken Browner, can provide you with a caring, supportive, confidential, and professional environment in which to explore your personal challenges and facilitate change.
Services include assessment, mental health counseling, short-term couples counseling, referral and crisis intervention. Psychological services can help you get back on track and help you succeed in pursuing your education at Lakeland. To make an appointment with our campus psychologist, you can choose any of the following methods:
Students are often concerned about their privacy when seeking out personal counseling on campus. All information that a student shares is regarded as confidential. Records are stored separately from your general college records, and only the campus psychologist has access to them. Information is not shared with outside parties unless permission to do so is given by the student. However, if there is a serious threat of harm to yourself or someone else, it may be required by law to share information with an outside party in order to ensure your safety. If you have any questions regarding confidentiality of psychological services, please feel free to discuss them with Dr. Browner at any time.
As the campus psychologist, one of my primary roles is to help ensure the safety and well-being of students at Lakeland. If you have any questions or would like information about my services, please feel free to contact me at any time.
The following procedures are provided as a resource for Lakeland students who may be experiencing a mental health crisis. However, if you are currently under the care of a mental health professional, you should first follow their crisis guidelines.
If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, choose one of these options, as appropriate to the situation:
It is not uncommon for people to have thoughts of suicide when they are in a great deal of emotional pain. Suicide can seem like the only way out of what feels like a hopeless situation, and reaching out for help can be difficult, especially when you are struggling. However, caring and effective help is available. Talk to a friend, family member, clergy member, teacher, professor or your doctor. You can also seek out the help of a counselor right here at Lakeland or a trained crisis hotline worker. Treatment for depression and other mental health conditions works. Counseling and/or medication are effective. If you have tried these in the past and they didn't help, try again. Sometimes it can take more than one try to find the right approach for you.
