All incoming degree-seeking Lakeland students are required to complete the First Year Experience (FYEX) course during their first semester. Students who do not successfully complete the FYEX during their first semester will have a registration hold placed on their account, which will prevent further registration for classes. Further course registration may only take place with concurrent registration in the FYEX course. Students may not register for Lakeland credit courses beyond their second semester without successful completion of the FYEX course.
Students who meet one or more of the following conditions are exempt from the FYEX requirement:
Completion of 15 credit hours with a cumulative 2.0 GPA or higher from a regionally accredited institution
Non-degree seeking students
Transient Students
College Credit Plus students are exempt through academic year 2016
All full-time faculty are qualified to teach the FYEX course and posting will take place in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
A full-time faculty member(s) will serve as the FYEX coordinator(s) and will be compensated in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The FYEX coordinator(s) will report to the associate provost for enrollment management and the interim associate provost for retention and completion through AY2015.
An advisory board, chaired by the FYEX coordinator(s) will meet once per semester. The advisory board will include faculty representation from all academic divisions, administrators, staff, and students.
