Related Procedure

  1. The college recognizes that a liberal education includes the values developed from interaction with other people. Most classroom settings can provide only a theoretical setting for life's problems. As a result, a student activities program shall be provided as an integral part of the curriculum.
  2. Facilities and staff of the college will be provided to encourage student success and to assure fiscal accountability.
  3. Recognition and support of groups and/or activities shall be limited to those that are open to all students without reservation.
  4. Only student organizations chartered by Lakeland Student Government may use the name of the college (Lakeland Community College, or Lakeland, or Lakeland College, Lake County, Ohio) for publicity or financial purposes.
  5. The college further recognizes the value of student organizations as part of the activities program and sets forth the following provisions for their inclusion:
    1. Lakeland Student Government is the governing body of the student organizations and has the authority to recognize and grant and revoke charters to student organizations. Students may form associations in compliance with the guidelines established by Lakeland Student Government and published by the Student Activities Department.
    2. Organizations wishing to apply for an appropriation from the student activity fund shall have their application acted upon by the student government who shall set forth the criteria for recognition and receipt of appropriations.
    3. Criteria for recognition of student organizations shall include, but are not limited to, the following:
      1. Have an advisor who shall be a full-time employee of the collge. If no such advisor is available, a temporary advisor may be appointed on an annual basis by the Dean of Student Development.
      2. The organization shall deposit all funds in the college student organization fund so that they might be subject to accounting and auditing. Student organizations are not permitted to have accounts at institutions off campus.
      3. The organization, or members thereof, shall make no purchases or encumber any funds except those authorized by the officers of the organization named for that purpose and approved by the advisor and the Dean of Student Development.
      4. Membership shall be open to all students of Lakeland Community College.
      5. The organization shall not own, lease, or rent property for a period of longer than one week.
      6. Organizations cannot be considered for an appropriation (although they may be recognized and chartered by Lakeland Student Government) if their objectives include espousal of a religious or political ideology.
  6. Varsity athletics (team competition between colleges) shall be permitted under provision (A) through (C) above.
