Lakeland Community College's accredited Associate of Science in Nursing program can prepare you to become a registered nurse (RN) in just two years.

Our comprehensive nursing-RN program prepares you with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide exceptional patient care across various health care settings. Through a combination of nursing courses, clinical rotations, learning lab experiences, and simulation you'll gain a strong foundation in:

• Direct patient care
• Critical thinking and judgement
• Coordination of care and Interventions
• Patient education and Promotion of Health and Wellness

An associate degree in nursing at Lakeland typically takes about two years to complete if you attend full time. Students are then eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN), a national exam, after graduation. Our program focuses on preparing graduates as competent entry level nurses that are ready for the NCLEX-RN. Lakeland nursing graduates consistently perform above-average on the exam to earn their nursing credential.

Most four-year colleges also accept credits from Lakeland's nursing program for those who decide to pursue more education after attending Lakeland.

RNs are in high demand, with a wide range of career opportunities available. Upon graduation and passing the (NCLEX-RN), you'll be qualified to work in various health care settings, including:

Lakeland Nursing-RN graduates can get a job as an RN directly out of college with licensure. Many nurses continue their education to earn bachelor's or graduate degrees in the field as well.

Some students set the bar high for themselves and want to move fast, so they may choose the option for dual enrollment with Ursuline College's Breen School of Nursing. With this, you'd take courses concurrently at both Lakeland and Ursuline programs, saving a lot of time and money.

Lakeland also has affiliations with the University of Akron and Bowling Green University for BSN completion. Talk to your academic counselor about these options.

Nurses can get a job with an associate or a bachelor's degree. Salary ranges vary depending on your degree level. Visit the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics website for more information on nursing salaries in Ohio and in the country.

Lakeland's Nursing-RN program offers start dates in both the fall and spring semesters. With a focus on hands-on learning and practical application, with challenging course work our program prepares you to start your nursing career upon graduation.

Although nursing is considered one of the best jobs without a bachelor's degree, all students are encouraged to further their education. Starting at Lakeland and then transferring to a bachelor's program can save you thousands of dollars!

Most students graduate with little to no debt by earning their degrees at Lakeland. Lakeland has numerous nursing scholarships available to help students achieve their educational goal.

There are three ways to become an RN nursing student at Lakeland, depending on where you are on your educational journey.

Here's the breakdown of options:

• Option 1 – You're a new high school grad or recently graduated within the last two years.
• Option 2 – You're a current college student at Lakeland or elsewhere.
• Option 3 – You already have an Associate of Science or bachelor's degree.
• Option 4 – You are already a licensed practical nurse.

If you haven't already, apply to Lakeland and go through the process to be ready to register for classes.

To be considered for acceptance into the program*, complete the following courses.

• BIOL 2210 (pass with grade "B" or higher)+
• ENGL 1110 (pass with grade "C" or higher)
• FYEX 1000 (pass with grade "C" or higher – note: for high school Option 1 only)
• MATH 1330 or MATH 1550 (pass with grade "C" or higher)+
• PSYC 1500 (pass with grade "C" or higher)

Once you complete these, you can apply to Lakeland's Nursing-RN Program to request a spot in the next cohort. Some students may have high school or other college credit that may fulfill these requirements. *Note: You must be formally accepted into the nursing program in order to take the nursing courses.
