Thank you for your interest in our health care degrees and certificates!
To start the process, the following requirements must be completed before you can be considered for admission into any of the health technologies programs. Students are also encouraged to apply to Lakeland and take the placement tests as early as possible to determine his/her placement in the mathematics and English courses.
Enrollment in health technology programs is limited.
Applicants must meet specific program admission requirements. Students should contact the Lakeland Counseling and Advising Center for specific requirements after attending a Mandatory Health Information Session.
The health programs are designed to begin in the fall semester. However, this does not prevent students from beginning classes at Lakeland at other times of the year and taking general education courses or prerequisite courses. Only those students who are formally accepted into the health programs can take the technical courses.
A complete physical examination is required after acceptance and prior to formal entry into the programs. The student is responsible for the expenses of the physical examination. For more information about health requirements, contact Paula Pastor-Hinkel at 440.525.7009, ppastor-hinkel@lakelandcc.edu or room H-164.
Students in the health technology programs are required to maintain a grade of "C" or above in all technical and support science courses to continue in the program.
Students who are pursuing degrees or certificates leading to application for professional licensure or certification, and/or who will be participating in clinical placements, internships, or practical through their program, should be aware that their host facility may require a criminal background check, finger printing, or drug screening. In such situations, each student is responsible for obtaining and paying for the background check or other screening process and for delivering required documentation to the facility. Although the College will make reasonable efforts to place admitted students in field experiences and internships, it will be up to the host facility to determine whether a student will be allowed to work at that facility. Host facilities may consider expunged convictions in placement decisions. Students shall further be aware that a criminal record may jeopardize licensure by the state certification body. Students should consult the licensing or certification body corresponding to their intended occupation for more details. Successful completion of a program of study at the college does not guarantee licensure, certification or employment in the relevant occupation. Standards may change during a student's program of study.
The health program's curricular criteria and academic standards for courses and program achievement require students to complete clinical assignments and training at clinical sites. In accordance with our clinical affiliations, all students present at a hospital/clinical affiliation site must complete a criminal background check. A criminal record may make you ineligible to participate in a clinical assignment. The resulting reports will be disclosed to field placement agencies, hospitals and clinicals. Clinical affiliations may also require that students pass a drug screening before acceptance. Any and all cost associated with the aforementioned screenings will be borne by the Student. Further, all fees paid for criminal record checks are non-refundable.
Failure to comply with procedures will result in termination of program sequencing and dismissal from the nursing and allied health program or certificate.
