The biology department seeks to expand the knowledge of the biological sciences through engaging lecture and laboratory study and exploration.
We strive to not only prepare our diverse student population for their career choices but also help them make informed decisions as common citizens. Our students will come to appreciate the varied methods of inquiry used to understand biological systems and expand their perspectives on biological issues through critical thinking. Upon successful completion of coursework in our department student will not only be intellectually enriched in the discipline but also come to appreciate how this insight can serve as a foundation for a more comprehensive and informed worldview.
Successful completion of an Association of Science in biology may lead to employment in a variety of different occupations. Below are examples, some of which may include additional degree work at a transfer institution. Northeast Ohio median salaries in 2020 for a medical lab technician was $58,530 and for a registered nurse was $72,100. See O*Net OnLine for additional wage and employment trends as well as required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Biology classes are held in spacious and well-equipped laboratories that have the latest tools and equipment. Our facilities and curriculum are designed for students pursuing careers in the health technologies or biology and our courses are taught by faculty who bring a broad array of experiences to the classroom including work as a medical doctor, medical practitioners, scientists, etc.
Students interested in biology, health technologies, transfer, or sciences are encouraged to get involved:
Lakeland has been a very enriching and welcoming experience, making way for a great transition from high school to college. My experience here has been incredible so far. The extra clubs and events Lakeland has to offer gives you the chance to experience a college life on a fabulous budget. My biggest piece of advice is to take advantage of everything on campus: the events, the gym, the clubs, the food bank. Go ahead and get out of your comfort zone to try them out. My favorite thing about Lakeland is the perfect balance it offers between academic support and personal well-being. The quiet study areas are great for focused learning, and the gym helps me feel stay fit and energized. The supportive professors and mentors are always there to guide me. Plus, the wide variety of courses offered makes it great place to grown both academically and personally. Mili Jariwala Medical Assisting and Associate of Science
