Theatre Academic Program

Lakeland Community College offers classes in theater for students to learn more about theater, develop and refine acting or script writing skills, or participate for credit in the civic theater program.

Putting ideas into action!

Under the direction of Derdriu Ring, Lakeland's very own theater students received the opportunity to perform a live play as part of a spring semester-long project for THEA 1300 (Script Analysis). Written by local playwright Eric Mansfield, the award-winning "Baron of Brown Street" is a gripping, poignant tale of one man's quest to find forgiveness against all odds.

All are welcome to enjoy this free production Monday, April 29 and Wednesday, May 1, at 1 p.m. in the Dr. Wayne L. Rodehorst Performing Arts Center on Lakeland's campus. No tickets are necessary.

Live performances provide students with practical experience in creating characters based upon the exploration of a written script. Through the process, they discover creative and in-depth techniques of script analysis and different methods for researching scripts.

Michelle Timms One thing I really love about Lakeland and being in the honors program is that the teachers have small classes and they are very devoted to their students. My friends at four-year institutions are taking the same intro classes that I am, but in large lecture halls with a lot more students. Michelle Timms Associate of Arts
