Lakeland freshman Steve Dolan (Riverside HS) qualified as an individual to advance to the NJCAA National Tournament in Plymouth, Indiana. At the Regional Tournament in Battle Creek, MI, he shot a total round of 228 with rounds of 79, 79, and 70. In the entire tournament, there were only two scores under par with Steve getting one of them. Under pressure, Steve held his composure to shoot his all-time low in tournament competition. Steve is the first Lakeland golfer to qualify for Nationals in 10 years. With his score of 228, Steve also qualified for the All-Region Team.
As a team, the Lakers shot 324, 308, and 300. The 300 is the best team score at Regionals in Coach Cala's tenure. The scores allowed the Lakers to finish in second place on the final day behind Owens CC and 4th overall. The 4th place team finish is also the best the Lakers have shot in under Coach Cala.
The National Tournament will be held at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, IN from May 24-27. It is a 72 hole stroke play event.

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (May 13, 2015) – Three members of the Lakeland Community College golf team competed as individuals at the NJCAA Division II, Region XII Tournament at Bedford Valley Golf Club to conclude the 2015 season. Sophomore Nick Pae (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) led the way with a 231 (75-79-77) to finish tied for 17th place and narrowly miss out on qualifying for the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Scottsboro, Alabama next weekend.
Pae was six strokes from qualifying for a final spot via a playoff with competitors from Oakland, Wayne County, and Columbus State. With Grand Rapids and Owens securing the team qualifiers as the top two finishers, only five other individuals were eligible to qualify for the national tournament.
Tyler Lewis (Mott) and Joel Maire (Muskegon) shot a 222 (74-73-75) and 223 (73-75-75), respectively, to secure the first two individuals spots before four others went to a playoff to decide the final three qualifiers. Michael Gaulin (Oakland), Austin Sereno (Oakland), and Garrett Freismuth (Wayne County) won the playoff and will continue their respective seasons in Alabama next weekend.
Pae shaved three strokes off his score from a year ago when he shot a 234 (78-77-79) as a freshman. His opening-round 75 this year matched his career-best.
John Blomstrom (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) shot a career-best 79 in the opening round and finished with a total score of 252 (79-85-88) for 42nd overall. Ty Hradek (Perry, Ohio / Perry) finished in 46th place after posting a 255 (85-87-83). Both Blomstrom and Hradek were making their first Region XII Tournament appearance.

PERRYSBURG, Ohio (May 3, 2015) – Sophomore Nick Pae (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) finished tied for ninth after shooting an 82 at the season-ending Owens Invitational to finish tenth in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) and secure as spot on the all-conference team. It marks the second straight season a Laker has garnered an all-conference selection.
Pae finished the conference season, which spanned six tournaments, with an average score of 80.17 and a cumulative score of 481. He ended four shots ahead of Owens' Wyatt Spalding for the final spot on the all-conference team.
Ty Hradek (Perry, Ohio / Perry) shot an 85 to finish tied for 21st while John Blomstrom (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) carded an 86 to finish tied for 23rd. The duo will join Pae at the NJCAA Region XII Tournament at Bedford Valley Golf Club in Battle Creek, Michigan beginning on Sunday, May 10.

Owens ended Cincinnati State's unbeaten conference record by shooting a 312 to capture first place at the final tournament of the regular season. The Surge, who clinched a conference championship with a first place showing at last week's OCCAC Northern Invitational, finished second with a team score of 318 on Sunday. Columbus State (330) and Lakeland (340) finished third and fourth, respectively.

CONCORD TOWNSHIP, Ohio (April 27, 2015) – The Lakeland Community College men's golf team hosted a pair of Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) tournaments over the weekend when they welcomed league opponents to Quail Hollow Country Club for two days of competition. On Sunday (April 26), conference teams competed in the Lakeland Invitational on Quail Hollow's Weskopf Course before Monday's OCCAC Northern Invitational took place on the Devlin Course.
Cincinnati State clinched the OCCAC Championship with a pair of first place finishes. The Surge shot a 296 on day one before posting a 311 in wet conditions Monday to tie for first place with Owens. With one tournament remaining in the regular season – the Owens Invitational – Cincinnati State has built an insurmountable 4.5 point lead over the second place Express. Columbus State sits in third with 10.5 while Lakeland is fourth with five points.
The four teams will compete in the regular season finale on Sunday (May 3) at Belmont Country Club before vying for conference honors at the OCCAC Championships on Monday.
Lakeland Invitational
Nick Pae (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) paced Lakeland with an 85 to finish tied for ninth individually while John Blomstrom's (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) 83 was two shots off a career-best and a four stroke improvement from last year's Lakeland Invitational. Blomstrom finished tied for 15th.

SUNBURY, Ohio (April 19, 2015) – Sophomore Nick Pae (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) carded a career-best 75 to pace the Lakeland Community College golf team at the Columbus State Invitational at Bent Tree Golf Course Sunday afternoon. Pae set his career-low for the second straight tournament after shooting a 76 at last week's Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Southern Invitational.
Collectively, the Lakers finished in fourth place with a team score of 327.
Pae finished in fifth place, one shot back of a top-3 finish and two clear of sixth place. Through the first three tournaments of the season, Pae is 10th in the conference in scoring average at 78.0.
Jack Egan (Lyndhurst, Ohio / NDCL) shot an 83, Ty Hradek (Perry, Ohio / Perry) posted an 84, and John Blomstrom (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) carded an 85 for Lakeland.
Cincinnati State claimed the team title for the third straight tournament after posting a team score of 300. Through three tournaments the Surge sit in first place with 12 points, ahead of Owens (8.5), Columbus State (6.5), and Lakeland (3).

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (April 13, 2015) – The Lakeland Community College men's golf team opened the 2015 season with a pair of fourth place finishes at Weatherwax Golf Club. Freshman Jack Egan (Lyndhurst, Ohio / Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) led the way with two rounds in the 70's.

Sophomore Nick Pae (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) finished sixth individually after carding a 76 as the Lakers posted a team score of 319. Lakeland was 14 strokes better than last year and placed three players in the top-15. Ty Hradek (Perry, Ohio / Perry) and Egan each posted a 79 in their first collegiate tournament while John Blomstrom (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) shot an 85.
Cincinnati State posted a team score of 304 to win the tournament while Owens and Columbus State finished tied for second with matching 306's.

OCCAC Southern Invitational (Sunday, April 12)
Lakeland posted a team score of 329 on Sunday, led by Jack Egan's 77. Egan finished tied for tenth place and is currently 11th in scoring average in conference play. John Blomstrom trimmed four strokes off his Saturday score to post an 81 on Sunday while Nick Pae carded an 83.
Cincinnati State's 294 was enough to claim the team title for the second day in a row. The Surge were five shots clear of Owens (299) and well in front of Columbus State (315).
Through the opening two tournaments of the season, Cincinnati State has accumulated eight points and sits in first place. Owens sits in second place with 5.5 points while Columbus State (4.5) and Lakeland (2) are currently third and fourth, respectively.
The Lakers are back in action on Sunday (April 19) when they compete in the Columbus State Invitational at Bent Tree Golf Club.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio (September 29, 2014) – The Lakeland Community College men's golf team posted a 341 to finish in fifth place at the season-opening John Carroll University Poppa Flowers Invitational on Monday afternoon at Shaker Heights Country Club.
The 341 team score matched last year's output in the same tournament. Nick Pae (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) paced the Lakers with an 83 while Jack Egan posted an 84 in his first collegiate outing.
Sophomore John Blomstrom and freshman Tyler Hamilton recorded an 86 and 88, respectively.
The Lakers return to action on Monday, October 13 for the Owens Invitational at Bedford Country Club.

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (May 13, 2014) – Three members of the Lakeland Community College men's golf team turned in quality rounds as individuals at the NJCAA Region XII Tournament at Bedford Valley Golf Course.
Pat Kaveekijpanukul (Thailand) paced Lakeland with a 232 (+16) to finish tied for 19th out of 62 golfers and narrowly miss a national tournament qualification spot. The sophomore matched a career-best with a 75 in his final round as a Laker.
Nick Pae (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) posted three rounds in the 70's including a career-best 77 in round two to finish with a cumulative score of 234 (+18).
George Rimes (Madison, Ohio / Madison) shot his best round of the season with a tournament-opening 78. The sophomore finished in 42nd place with a 244 (+28).
Coach Cala began coaching at Lakeland Community College in the fall of 2004. Coach Cala's teams have been solid performers in league competition, including a first place finish in 2006, when he was named the OCCAC Coach of the Year. He is the teaching professional at Quail Hollow Resort, in Concord Township, a position he has held since 1991. Previously, he was the head professional at Pine Ridge Country Club in Wickliffe. The golf team's annual spring trip to South Carolina allows the team to play on some of the southeast's finest courses. Their stay at Hickory Knob is a seasonal highlight, and it always includes a side trip to the Augusta National Golf Course.
