Lakeland Community college's men's basketball team edged the Hocking College Hawks 70-69 last night at Lakeland. This game started poorly for the men in blue as they were down by as many as 17 points in the first half. The Hawks looked quicker and sharper throughout the early parts of the game to build their lead. The Lakers finally found their game though and were able to trim the deficit to 42-33 at the half. From there, the game would get very interesting.
The teams battled back and forth early on until Trevon Granger, Da'ron Falkner , and Calvin Giles hit consecutive baskets to trim the lead to 5 points. The Hawks would then go on a run and built the lead back up to 13 (52-39) with 14:01 to play. From there, Falkner, Giles, and Jeramie Burge went on a tear and Lakeland finally took their first lead at 65-63 with 3:09 to play. After an Alonzo Hamilton free throw, the Hawks would go on a minirun that was followed by a Burge free throw to knot the score at 67. The Hawks Darnei Hairston would then hit a baseline floater with under 10 seconds to play to give the Hawks a 69-67 edge. The Lakers then moved the ball to their half and called a timeout with 4.1 seconds to play. Both teams then used an additional timeout in trying to find a strategy to secure a win. The Lakers inbounded the ball to Jeramie Burge beyond the arc at the top of the key. The freshman Burge dribbled to his right and was heavily guarded by two Hawks defenders. Burge then shot the ball with defenders in his face at the buzzer and hit nothing but net as the Lakers secured the 70-69 victory.
On the night, Da'ron Falkner had 15 points and 6 rebounds, Calvin Giles had 11 points and 18 rebounds, while Jeramie Burge finished with a team high 28 points. With the win, the Lakers improved to 4-3 while the Hawks dropped to 7-6.
The Lakers are back in action this Saturday as they travel to Piqua, Ohio to play the Edison Community College Chargers. They will then make the trek to Batavia, New York to play Genesee Community College Sunday. Game times for both games is 3 p.m. The team will then be off for the holidays and return to action Jan. 11 when they will travel to Columbus State to play the Cougars at 7:30 p.m.
In last night's game, Chris Scott (25 pts and 5 rebounds) and Frank Barber (19 points and 6 rebounds) led the way for the Lakers. In the first half, the duo accounted for 23 of the 28 points. Despite their efforts, the Lakers trailed 30-28 at the half as they were consistently beat on the boards most of the evening. In the second half, Scott hit an early three while Barber hit two three pointers of his own to get the Lakers going. The Lakers also received significant contributions from Jaden Thomas and Brooklyn Simms who each contributed 7 points in the second half. Simms hit a big three pointer and lay-up late in the second half to ice the game for the Lakers.
The winner of the District tournament heads to Danville, Illinois to represent the District in the NJCAA National Tournament March 15-19.
The Lakers will play host to Cincinnati State on Tuesday, March 1 at 6pm. The Lakers gained the home game by completing a sweep of games this past week. On Wednesday, 2/24, the Lakers traveled to Owens and beat the Express 95-90 in double overtime. On Saturday, 2/27, the team traveled to the Cuyahoga Metro Campus and cruised to an 82-71 victory over the Challengers. Both games featured many outstanding plays; however, it was truly a team effort which helped the Lakers pull through. A balanced attack and a strong effort will be needed again on Tuesday to help the Lakers advance.
The winner of this game will head to the District Final Four in Circleville, Ohio on March 4-5. The winner of that tournament heads to Danville, Illinois to represent the District in the NJCAA National Tournament March 15-19.

The Lakers Men's Basketball team defeated Sinclair Community College 79-73 on Saturday to improve to 11-10 on the season and 4-3 in the OCCAC. The Tartan's were undefeated at 21-0 and ranked second nationally before the loss. Four Lakers were in double figures as Chris Scott scored 24 points, Frank Barber scored 17 points, Mike Smith scored 12 points, and Brooklyn Simms added 11 points. Calvin Giles also had significant contributions with 7 points and 13 rebounds.
The Lakers played catch-up for most of the afternoon as they were down by as many as 21 points in the first half. However, they fought back hard to cut the deficit to 10 at the half. The second half belonged to the Lakers as they continued to battle before finally taking the lead for good after a steal and assist by Mike Smith led to a Frank Barber lay-up and a 74-72 lead. Chris Scott followed with a steal and a lay-up of his own before Brooklyn Simms sank 3 of 4 free throws in the last minute to ice the game.
The Lakers travel to Columbus State on Wednesday for a 7:30pm tip against the Cougars before playing host to Edison State Community College on Saturday (2/5) at 3:00pm.
The Lakers Men's Basketball team had a strong week in league play as they saw their record improve to 10-9 overall and 3-2 in league play. On Wednesday, the Lakers defeated Lorain County 82-80. The Lakers were led by Freshman Mike Smith who had 25 points which included shooting 5 for 7 from the arc. In total, the Lakers had 5 players score in double figures.
On Saturday, the Lakers traveled to Cincinnati to take on the surge and came away with a 96-93 – 2OT victory. In this game, Chris Scott (22 pts, 15 reb) and Jeff Nevulis (21 pts, 10 reb) led the way for the Lakers by having double doubles. In the second overtime, Chris Scott came up big down the stretch scoring a basket, hitting two free throws, and getting 2 rebounds in the last minute of the game.
The Lakers game this Wednesday was postponed until 2/24 due to inclement weather. They are back in action this Saturday as they play host to Cuyahoga CC at 3:00pm.
The Lakers Men's Basketball team suffered a difficult 78-76 defeat Wednesday night to the hands of the Columbus State Cougars. This was a seesaw battle throughout as the game had a 4 point or less spread through much of the evening. The Lakers had a 1 point lead with less than 30 seconds to go in the game. Columbus state brought the ball across half court and the Lakers played tough defense to knock it away. From there, the ball was batted around a couple of times until it bounced out to an unsuspecting Columbus State player who through it up from beyond an NBA three point distance with 2.4 seconds left in regulation. The basket was good and the Lakers were unable to get off a successful shot in the remaining time. Frank Barber (17 pts, 8 rebounds) and Chris Scott (17 points, 6 rebounds) led the way for the Lakers. Brooklyn Simms and Jaden Thomas each chipped in with 12 points while Calvin Giles contributed with 8 points and 7 rebounds. With the loss, the Lakers dropped to 7-9 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

The Lakers Men's Basketball team completed the Fall semester of their season with a convincing 88-75 victory over the Chargers in Piqua, Ohio. With the victory, they evened their record at 1-1 in the OCCAC and they are now 7-8 overall. Drew Mellen (15 pts and 12 rebounds) and Jaden Thomas (18 points and 8 rebounds) led the way for the Lakers. Chris Scott added 15 points and 7 rebounds while Brooklyn Simms chipped in with 10 points and 4 rebounds to help the Lakers in the victory. The Lakers are now on break for the holiday. The next games (women and men) are at home on Wednesday, 1/6/16 against Columbus State and on Saturday, 1/9/16 against Clark State. Game times for all weekday games are at 5:30 and 7:30 and all Saturday games are at 1 and 3pm.
The Lakers Men's Basketball team completed the non-league portion of their season with and held a 6-6 mark coming into their league opener this past Saturday at Sinclair Community College. Unfortunately for the Lakers, they got off to a slow start and trailed 36-17 at the half. The game was vitually even in the second half, but due to the difficult start, the Lakers lost to the Tartans 88-66 to drop to 6-7 on the season and 0-1 in OCCAC play. Jaden Thomas led the way with 30 points and rebounds while Jeff Nevulis added 10 points and 5 boards. The Lakers play again on Wednesday, 12/16, against Genesee CC in a non-conference tilt. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30.
KIRTLAND, Ohio (May 12, 2015) – Sophomore guard Ahmid Williams (Monroe, N.J.) will return to the Garden State to continue his academic and athletic career at NCAA Division II Bloomfield College for the 2015-16 season. Williams was a two-year player for the Lakeland men's basketball program, helping the Lakers claim an Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) championship and NJCAA District 11 title before finishing fifth at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament as a sophomore.
Williams was one of only two Lakers to play in all 34 games this season, helping Lakeland to a 27-7 overall record including a 12-2 mark in league play. One of the Lakers' top perimeter threats, Williams led the team in 3-point shooting percentage at 43.4 percent. He scored a career-high 20 points on nine of 13 shooting against Lorain County in the OCCAC opener and finished sixth in the conference in 3-point shooting percentage.
Bloomfield College competes in the Central Athletic Collegiate Conference (CACC) and posted an 11-16 overall record in 2014-15. In the 2013-14 season, Bloomfield captured the CACC Tournament championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament East Regional semifinals where it ended its season with a 21-9 overall record.

KIRTLAND, Ohio (May 12, 2015) – All-conference forward Kenneth Evans (Cleveland / Collinwood) has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his academic and athletic career at Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas next year. The sophomore forward earned an Honorable Mention All-Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) selection after playing a pivotal role in Lakeland's most successful season in program history. The Lakers claimed conference and district titles for the first time ever and finished fifth in the country at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament.
A two-year player for the men's basketball prgoram, Evans played in 31 games and averaged 9.1 points and 5.2 rebounds per game as a sophomore. He set career-highs in his final home game against Columbus State when he scored 21 points and hauled in 17 boards to help Lakeland clinch a conference championship for the second time in three seasons.
Evans scored in double figures in the final two games of the NJCAA Division II National Tournament, pouring in 15 against Garrett (Md.) College before adding 16 against Schoolcraft (Mich.) College in the tournament finale.
Huston-Tillotson competes as a Division I member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Red River Athletic Conference.

KIRTLAND, Ohio (April 30, 2015) – Eight incoming freshmen have signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Lakeland Community College men's basketball program for the 2015-16 season. The class includes standouts from Northeast Ohio, Central Ohio, and Western New York.
The group will look to continue Lakeland's run of success over the past five years, which includes three district championships and NJCAA Division II Tournament appearances, two Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) titles, and four NJCAA Division II First Team All-Americans. During that time span the Lakers have amassed a 117-48 record under the program's all-time wins leader, head coach Terry Bowe.
Aaron Blake
A 6'6" wing, Aaron Blake is from Martin Luther King High School and Garfield Heights, Ohio. Blake played AAU basketball for The National Basketball Academy (TNBA) as a sophomore and junior. The son of Allen Blake and Teri Jenkins, Byron is undecided on his major at Lakeland.

A 6'5" wing, Byron Blake is from Martin Luther King High School and Garfield Heights, Ohio. Blake played AAU basketball for The National Basketball Academy (TNBA) as a sophomore and junior. The son of Allen Blake and Teri Jenkins, Byron is undecided on his major at Lakeland.
Kevin Hudson Jr.
A 6'0" guard, Kevin Hudson Jr. is an honor roll student and all-conference student-athlete at Cornerstone Christian Academy in nearby Willoughby. The Euclid, Ohio native and member of the National Honor Society earned all-conference honors in his final three seasons while also being named All-Ohio as a junior and senior.
Hudson Jr. helped guide the Patriots to a Division IV District Final appearance as a senior.
The son of Aarion and Kevin Hudson Sr. plans to study personal training at Lakeland.
Demetrius Maddox
A 6'4" guard out of Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School and Broadview Heights, Ohio, Demetrius Maddox helped guide the Bees to a district championship as a sophomore. As a senior, Maddox averaged 14 points and 5 rebounds per game. He played AAU basketball for Score More Athletic Club (SMAC).
The son of Anthony and Dian Maddox, Demetrius plans to major in Computer Science at Lakeland.
Drew Mellen
A 6'7" wing from Marysville High School and Marysville, Ohio Drew Mellen earned three varsity letters and a pair of conference awards from the Ohio Capital Conference (OCC). Mellen garnered Second Team All-OCC honors as a junior and a senior while leading the Monarchs to a 15-7 overall record in his final season. He played AAU basketball with Who Got Game Basketball Academy under head coach David Dennis Sr. where he captured a Division III National Championship as a sophomore.
The son of Dale and Kelly Mellen, Drew plans to major in business at Lakeland.
Drevon Mills
A 6'3" guard, Drevon Mills was named to the honor roll through all four years at Cleveland Central Catholic. The Cleveland native helped the Ironmen capture district championships as a junior and a senior. In his final season, Cleveland Central Catholic won a regional championship and finished as the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Division II state runner-up with a 24-5 overall record.
He played AAU basketball for Score More Athletic Club (SMAC) as a freshman and sophomore. The son of Dawn Griffin, Drevon is undecided on his major at Lakeland.
Mathias Nicoletti
A 6'7" wing from Canton South High School and East Sparta, Ohio, Mathias Nicoletti averaged 14.6 points and 8.0 rebounds per game en route to team MVP and Offensive Player of the Year honors as a senior. He played AAU basketball for DB Hoops and was named to the Honor Roll at Canton South as a senior.
The son of Mike and Dawn Nicoletti, Mathias is undecided on his major at Lakeland.
Derick Simpson
A 6'4" wing from Buffalo, New York, Derick Simpson was a merit roll student and all-conference basketball player at Bishop Timon St. Jude High School. Simpson earned Second Team All-Catholic League honors as junior before being selected first team as a senior. He garnered Honorable Mention All-Western New York accolades and was an All-Centercourt Team selection during both seasons.
Simpson averaged 17.5 points in his final season at Timon and finished his scholastic career with 993 career points. He also competed on the football team and played AAU basketball with Nike CIA Bounce.
The son of Maurice Simpson and Janeika Newell, Derick is undecided on his major at Lakeland.
Maurice Wilson Jr.
A 6'5" wing, Maurice Wilson Jr. is a merit roll and honor roll student at Maple Heights High School in Maple Heights, Ohio. Wilson Jr. earned three varsity letters and was named Team MVP as a senior. He played AAU basketball for Elite Skills as a junior.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 31, 2015) – Sophomore guard Mike Davis became the eighth player in the 46-year history of the Lakeland Community College men's basketball program to be selected All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) when he was named to the First Team on Tuesday afternoon. Davis is the fourth Laker to earn First Team honors in the last five seasons, which is tied for the most in the nation among NJCAA Division II programs.
The Lakers leading scorer during the 2014-15 season, Davis averaged 20.5 points per game en route to Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Player of the Year and First Team All-Region XII honors. The Cleveland native and Garfield Heights High School graduate averaged 21.5 points per game at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Danville, Illinois where he was named to the All-Tournament team after guiding Lakeland to a fifth place finish and 3-1 record.
In all, 30 student-athletes from across the country were named NJCAA All-Americans including two from the OCCAC. Of the 30 institutions represented, nine appeared on Lakeland's 2014-15 schedule.

KIRTLAND, Ohio (March 26, 2015) – Sophomore guard Mike Davis (Cleveland, Ohio / Garfield Heights) and freshman guard Montell Goodwin (Warrensville Heights, Ohio / Warrensville Heights) earned NJCAA All-Region XII honors after guiding the Lakeland men's basketball team to Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) and District 11 championships this season. The duo also propelled the Lakers to a 3-1 record at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Danville, Illinois and a fifth-place national finish.
Davis, the conference's Player of the Year and leading scorer, finished the season 19th in the country in scoring average at 20.6 points per game. The sophomore averaged 21.5 points per game in four games at the national tournament and poured in 27 against Garrett College on March 19. He was Lakeland's lone selection on the All-Tournament team.
The freshman Goodwin earned 33 starts in his first collegiate season and finished the season with 576 points, one shy of Davis' conference-best 577. He was the only freshman to garner First Team All-OCCAC honors and is one of eight first year players to receive All-Region XII recognition. He averaged 16 points per game at the national tournament and tallied a career-high with 28 on 10 of 14 shooting against Garrett. His jump shot with 1.8 seconds left in the District 11 championship game sent the Lakers back to the national tournament for the third time in program history.
Lakeland finished the season with a 27-7 record, captured the program's third district title, and won its fourth conference championship.

DANVILLE, Ill. (March 21, 2015) – The Lakeland men's basketball team concluded a record-setting season with a 85-79 victory over the nation's top-ranked team, Schoolcraft, to secure fifth place at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament on Saturday afternoon inside Mary Miller Gymnasium. The Lakers (27-7) ended the year as the only team in program history to capture a conference and district championship in the same season and also finished with the fourth most wins. Fifth place is also the second-best in school history behind the 2012 team which finished fourth.
Sophomore guard Mike Davis (Cleveland / Garfield Heights) poured in a team-high 24 points while classmates Kenneth Evans (Cleveland / Collinwood) and Rasheed Howard (Elizabeth, N.J.) added 16 apiece in the victory. Davis was named to the All-Tournament team as Lakeland's lone selection.
Freshman point guard Montell Goodwin (Warrensville Heights) chipped in 14 points and a team-high six assists for the Lakers, who conclude the national tournament with a program-best 3-1 record. Lakeland finished with wins against CCBC-Dundalk, Garrett College, and No. 1 Schoolcraft College. The Lakers only defeat came to the reigning NJCAA Division II National Champions, No. 2 Phoenix College, on Wednesday.

DANVILLE, Ill. (March 19, 2015) – The No. 7 seed Lakeland Community College men's basketball team responded from Wednesday's defeat to Phoenix College with an emphatic 102-84 victory over Garrett College in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament Thursday night inside Mary Miller Gymnasium. The Lakers (26-7) are guaranteed a top-6 finish for just the second time in program history and can lock down fifth place with a victory on Saturday at 2 p.m. local time in their final game of the tournament. LCC will await its opponent pending Friday's results.
Montell Goodwin (Warrensville Heights) led all scorers with 28 points on 10 of 14 shooting. The freshman point guard hit seven of eight from beyond the arc while hauling in seven rebounds and dishing out six assists. Sophomore guard Mike Davis (Cleveland / Garfield Heights) chipped in 27 points on 11 of 15 shooting while Cristen Wilson (Cleveland / John Hay) posted his second double-double of the tournament with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Ken Evans (Cleveland / Collinwood) added 15 points and seven rebounds as the Lakers staved off elimination against the champions of the Maryland JUCO conference. Garrett's leading scorer, DeAndre Davis, was limited to just four points on two of six shooting.
Playing without the services of freshman center Chris Scott (Cleveland / Nordonia), who sustained an injury late in the quarterfinal game against Phoenix, Lakeland outrebounded Garrett (25-8) 41-31 and pulled down 19 offensive boards.

DANVILLE, Ill. (March 18, 2015) – The No. 7 seed Lakeland Community College men's basketball team went toe-to-toe with the defending NJCAA Division II champions and No. 2 seed Phoenix College but ultimately fell 81-65 in the National Tournament quarterfinals Wednesday night inside Mary Miller Gymnasium.
Reigning NJCAA Tournament MVP Brandon Brown combined with Troy Conley to score 55 of the Bears' 81 points as the representatives from District I clinched a spot in the Final Four for the second consecutive year. The Lakers (25-7) were denied a return trip to the national semifinals after making the program's first appearance in 2012 despite double-doubles from Cristen Wilson (Cleveland / John Hay) and Chris Scott (Cleveland / Nordonia).
Lakeland is still alive in the double-elimination tournament and can clinch a spot in the 5th place game on Saturday afternoon with a victory tomorrow afternoon at 3, but it has been eliminated from contending for the program's first national championship.
Phoenix led nearly wire-to-wire but was threatened down the stretch after building a nine-point (41-32) halftime lead. Lakeland cut a ten-point deficit to just five with under three minutes to play and had a chance to pull within two, but Montell Goodwin's (Warrensville Heights) 3-point attempt came up short and Phoenix capitalized with five straight points to push the advantage back to double-digits.
Wilson finished a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor for 15 points to go along with ten rebounds while Scott added 14 points and 12 boards in the setback. Lakeland held a decisive advantage on the glass, outrebounding Phoenix 45-29 but turned the ball over 16 times and connected on just 10 of 26 attempts from the free throw line. The Bears, conversely, turned the ball over just six times and hit 76% (13-17) of their free throws.

DANVILLE, Ill. (March 17, 2015) – The No. 7 seed Lakeland men's basketball team ran past No. 10 seed Community College of Baltimore County –Dundalk, 92-72, in the first round of the NJCAA Division II National Tournament on Tuesday morning inside Mary Miller Gymnasium. Montell Goodwin (Warrensville Heights) led four players in double figures and flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 16 points, ten rebounds, and eight assists in 33 minutes.
Mike Davis (Cleveland / Garfield Heights) chipped in a game-high 21 points and did the bulk of his damage in the opening half. The sophomore guard hit seven of eight shots including four of five from beyond the arc for 19 points as the Lakers (25-6) took a 43-34 lead into the locker rooms.
CCBC-Dundalk (20-10) jumped out quickly and trimmed the deficit to just six with 15 minutes to go in the second half, but Lakeland countered with a run of its own and pushed the lead to 17 (66-49) with 12 minutes remaining. Chris Scott (Cleveland / Nordonia) scored 16 of his 18 points in the second stanza while Rasheed Howard (Elizabeth, N.J.) chipped in 13 second half points and finished with 17 on the day.
Freshman forward Cristen Wilson (Cleveland / John Hay) added nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds in the victory.
The Lakers' pressure defense forced the Lions to commit 22 turnovers including a season-high eight from sophomore point guard Brandon Fields. Fields, who entered the game second in the nation in assists and ninth in assists-to-turnover ratio, handed out a season-low three helpers in the setback.
Lakeland advances to the "Elite Eight" where it will take on the defending national champions and No. 2 seed Phoenix College on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. CST. The winner will advance to the national semifinals on Friday evening. The Lakers improved to 5-4 overall in NJCAA Tournament games and won their tournament opener for the second time in as many trips to Danville.

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio (March 7, 2015) – Freshman Montell Goodwin (Warrensville Heights) hit a go-ahead jumper with 1.8 seconds remaining to cap a furious second half rally and lift top-seeded Lakeland over No. 2-seed Owens, 80-78, in the NJCAA District 11 championship game. With the victory, the Lakers return to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Danville, Illinois for the third time in program history.
The win also gives 12th year head coach Terry Bowe 229 career victories and moved him into first place on the all-time wins list in men's basketball program history. Bowe surpassed Hall of Fame coach Will Shuster, who amassed 228 wins from 1977-1988.
Goodwin finished with a team-high 22 points to go along with nine assists. Mike Davis (Cleveland / Garfield Heights) and Rasheed Howard (Elizabeth, N.J.) added 18 points apiece while Cristen Wilson (Cleveland / John Hay) posted a double-double with 10 points and a team-high 13 rebounds.
Darren Groves led five players in double figures with 19 points for Owens.
In a meeting of the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference's (OCCAC) top two teams, it was the Express who took a 45-38 lead into the locker rooms. That advantage ballooned to 14 points with ten minutes remaining in the game before the Lakers made their move. Goodwin capped a 13-2 run with a layup to pull Lakeland within five (72-67) with six minutes to go. The two teams traded scores over the next three minutes before consecutive baskets from Howard and Wilson evened the score at 78 with less than one minute left.
On the ensuing possession, Shaakir Lindsey's 3-point attempt found front iron before falling to Wilson underneath the basket. With the shot clock off, Lakeland ran the clock down to nine seconds before taking a timeout to diagram the game's final play. Goodwin collected the in-bounds pass beyond mid-court and dribbled to the top of the key. With Lindsey guarding him closely he rose above the defender and created enough space to get a shot off. His jumper found the backboard first before dropping in with less than two ticks to go. Lindsey's last-second heave came up well short and set off a celebration at mid-court for the Lakers.
Lakeland moves to 24-6 with the victory and will have one week off before departing for Danville. The win marks the first time in program history the Lakers have claimed a conference championship and district title in the same season. They will await word on their first round opponent.

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio (March 6, 2015) – Sophomore guard Mike Davis (Cleveland / Garfield Heights) scored 25 points on 9 of 13 shooting to power the top-seeded Lakeland men's basketball team into the District 11 title game with a 99-66 victory over No. 5-seed Sinclair on Friday night.
Montell Goodwin (Warrensville Heights) added 18 points and eight rebounds for the Lakers, who will make their fourth championship game appearance in the past five seasons. Lakeland won the district title in 2011 and 2012 before falling in 2013. It will take on the winner of No. 2 Owens and No. 3 Cincinnati State on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. on the campus of Ohio Christian University.
Cristen Wilson (Cleveland / John Hay) added 10 points and four rebounds while Rasheed Howard (Elizabeth, N.J.) added nine points off the bench. The Lakers (23-6) shot 53 percent from the floor and connected on 10 of 23 attempts from beyond the arc while holding the Tartan Pride to 38 percent shooting.

KIRTLAND, Ohio (March 5, 2015) – On the heels of the program's fourth conference title in 46 years and second in three seasons, the Lakeland Community College men's basketball team was rewarded with a number of individual honors on Thursday afternoon.
Sophomore guard Mike Davis (Cleveland, Ohio / Garfield Heights) was named Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Player of the Year while three others joined him on the all-conference team as voted on by league coaches. Freshman guard Montell Goodwin (Warrensville Heights, Ohio / Warrensville Heights) was selected to the First Team, classmate Cristen Wilson (Cleveland, Ohio / John Hay) garnered Second Team honors, and sophomore forward Kenneth Evans (Cleveland, Ohio / Collinwood) earned Honorable Mention accolades. Additionally, head coach Terry Bowe was named OCCAC Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his 12 years leading the program after guiding the Lakers to a 22-6 record in the regular season and 12-2 mark in the OCCAC.
Davis becomes to the second Laker in the last three seasons to be named the conference's MVP. The second-year guard averaged 21.8 points in 14 league games this season while shooting 53 percent from the field and 36.5 percent from beyond the arc. A two-time OCCAC player of the week, he poured in a career-high 31 at Cuyahoga on January 28 days after setting a career-high with 30 against Cincinnati State. The conference's second-leading scorer, Davis scored at least 20 points in seven of 11 OCCAC games played and was a focal point for the nation's third-highest scoring offense.
Goodwin finished second on the team in scoring, averaging 17.9 points while seeing action in all 12 league games including 11 starts. The newcomer also led the team in assists (3.5) and steals (3.2) per game while averaging 5.3 rebounds. He led the conference in 3-point shooting, connecting on 52.3 percent of his attempts from distance. He also finished sixth in field goal percentage at 56.8 percent.
Wilson finished third on the team in scoring at 13.6 points per game while leading the Lakers in rebounding in his first collegiate season. He averaged 9.4 rebounds per game and hauled in double-digit boards in five league games including 16 at Columbus State on January 31. He matched a season-high with 21 points against Cincinnati State on 8-of-12 shooting and scored in double figures in 12 OCCAC games.
Evans averaged 9.4 points and finished third on the team in rebounding at 5.4 per game. The sophomore forward matched a career-high with 21 points and hauled in a career-high 17 rebounds on Sophomore Day against Columbus State on February 28.
Lakeland's most decorated head coach, Terry Bowe has amassed 227 wins in his 12 years at the helm, placing him second in program history behind Hall of Fame head coach Will Shuster's 228. He was selected OCCAC Coach of the Year after guiding the Lakers to the conference championship in 2013 and also earned the honor in 2010 and 2007. Under his direction, Lakeland has captured the program's only two district championships (2011, 2012) while also claiming two league titles (2013, 2015) after winning just two in the previous 43 years.
The Lakers earned the top seed in the upcoming Region XII, District 11 Tournament and will take on No. 5-seed Sinclair in the semifinals on Friday night at 6 p.m. on the campus of Ohio Christian University.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (March 4) – Former Lakeland men's basketball player Richard Smith (Cleveland, Ohio / Lutheran East) was selected to the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Second-Team on Wednesday afternoon. Smith, a junior at California University of Pennsylvania (NCAA Division II), ranked second on the team in scoring at 11.3 points per game and finished fourth in the league with 8.3 rebounds per game.
In his first year with the program, he posted a .504 field-goal percentage while also leading the team with 1.4 steals, 1.6 blocks and 33.0 minutes per game.
A 6-foot-9 forward, Smith tallied at least 10 rebounds in nine games and recorded six double-doubles this season. He finished only three rebounds shy of tying the single-game school record for rebounds after collecting 19 against Edinboro in January. Smith also was the first player to finish a season with at least 8.0 rebounds per games in seven years, while also registering the highest single-season average since Eric Watson averaged 8.9 rebounds per game in the 1998-99 campaign.
A two-year starter at Lakeland, Smith helped guide the Lakers to a District Championship and NJCAA Division II Tournament appearance as a freshman. One year later Lakeland captured its first conference championship since 1995 after going 11-1 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference. He earned Second Team All-OCCAC honors as a sophomore and currently holds the program records for blocks in a game (15), blocks in a season (124), and blocks in a career 205).

COLUMBUS, Ohio (March 2, 2015) – The NJCAA Region XII, District 11 bracket has been set after the final regular games were completed over the weekend. The Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) co-champions, Lakeland and Owens, will enter as the tournament's top two seeds and receive an automatic bye to the semifinals at Ohio Christian University. LCC will be making its fifth consecutive appearance in the district semifinals.
The Lakers (22-6, 12-2 OCCAC) will enter as the top overall seed for the second time in three seasons after winning their fourth conference title in program history on Saturday. The Express (24-6, 12-2) defeated visiting Cincinnati State on Saturday to capture their second league title in a row.
Lakeland will take on the winner of No.4-seed Cuyahoga and No. 5-seed Sinclair on Friday (March 6) at 6 p.m. The Challengers host the Tartan Pride on Tuesday (March 3) at 6 p.m. in Cleveland. The Lakers swept the season series from both teams en route to their second OCCAC championship in three years.
In the other quarterfinal matchup, No. 3-seed Cincinnati State hosts No. 6-seed Columbus State with the winner advancing to Friday's semifinal against Owens at 8 p.m.
The winners of each semifinal will advance to Saturday's championship game with an NJCAA Division II National Tournament berth at stake.

KIRTLAND, Ohio (February 28, 2015) – For the fourth time in the 45-year history of the program, the Lakeland Community College men's basketball team won an Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) championship following Saturday afternoon's 93-59 victory over visiting Columbus State. The Lakers (22-6, 12-2 OCCAC) earned a share of the league title with the win and clinched the top seed in the upcoming District 11 Tournament via the tiebreaker. Owens Community College also earned a share of the OCCAC championship after defeating Cincinnati State in overtime.
The Lakers earn an automatic bye as the number one seed and will face the winner of No. 4-seed Cuyahoga and No. 5-seed Sinclair on Friday night at 6 p.m. on the campus of Ohio Christian University.
Ken Evans (Cleveland, Ohio / Collinwood) celebrated sophomore day with a career-best performance in his final home game as a Laker. The forward set career-highs with 21 points and 17 rebounds in 23 minutes to pace Lakeland.

CINCINNATI, Ohio (February 22, 2015) – Cincinnati State scored the game-winning basket in the final second to edge visiting Lakeland, 75-74, in a matchup of nationally-ranked teams on Sunday afternoon. The Lakers fall to 21-6 overall and 10-2 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) with one game left to play in the regular season. Lakeland hosts Columbus State on Saturday (Feb. 28) at 3 p.m. and can clinch a share of the OCCAC championship with a victory.
Cristen Wilson (Cleveland, Ohio / John Hay) drilled a 3-pointer with 11 seconds to go in the game to give Lakeland a temporary 74-73 lead. After inbounding the ball and racing up the court Cincinnati State found an open man in the paint for the game winning floater, which caromed off the back iron and hung on the front of the rim momentarily before dropping in.
Montell Goodwin (Warrensville Heights, Ohio / Warrensville Heights) paced the Lakers with a team-high 15 points while Wilson (Cleveland, Ohio / John Hay) and Mike Davis (Cleveland, Ohio / Garfield Heights) added 14 and 13, respectively.
With a victory Saturday Lakeland can capture its fourth conference championship in program history and second in three seasons. The Lakers defeated Columbus State, 102-64, on January 31.

KIRTLAND, Ohio (February 18, 2015) – Freshman guard Montell Goodwin (Warrensville Heights, Ohio / Warrensville Heights) scored a team-high 19 points to pull the nationally-ranked Lakeland men to within one win of claiming its fourth conference title in program history following a 72-59 victory over visiting Cuyahoga Wednesday night.
Lakeland travels to Cincinnati State on Saturday (Feb. 21) before hosting Columbus State exactly one week later to close out the regular season. DAYTON, Ohio (February 14, 2015) – The nationally-ranked Lakeland men's basketball team responded from its first conference loss of the season on Wednesday with an 85-68 victory over host Sinclair on Saturday afternoon inside "Building 8."
The Lakers improve to 19-6 overall and 10-1 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) with three league games remaining. LCC currently holds a one-game lead in the standings and will need two wins in its final three games to ensure a conference championship. If the Lakers win out they will be crowned outright OCCAC champions for the second time in three seasons.
Mike Davis (Cleveland, Ohio / Garfield Heights) led five scorers in double figures with 20 points on seven of 15 shooting. PERRYSBURG, Ohio (February 11, 2015) – Owens used a pivotal second half run to pull away from Lakeland and earn a 111-89 victory in a matchup of nationally-ranked Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) teams Wednesday night. The Lakers stall at 18-6 overall and 9-1 in the OCCAC while the Express move to within one game of tying LCC for first place at 20-6 overall (8-2 OCCAC).
Darren Groves scored a team-high 23 points for the Express while the Lakers were led by Montell Goodwin's (Warrensville Heights, Ohio / Warrensville Heights) 20. The freshman guard matched a career-high with nine rebounds while adding four steals in the setback.
Rasheed Howard (Elizabeth, N.J.) chipped in 19 points on seven of 11 shooting while classmate Mike Davis (Cleveland, Ohio / Garfield Heights) added 16.
Ken Evans (Cleveland, Ohio / Collinwood) came off the bench to score 15 points and pull down six rebounds in 25 minutes.
The loss snaps Lakeland's nine-game winning streak and creates a log jam atop the league standings. It is the second time in three seasons an undefeated Lakeland team suffered its first OCCAC loss at Owens. In 2013, the Lakers entered the game 8-0 before suffering a 71-69 loss to the Express. Lakeland would respond by winning its final three conference games en route to the program's first OCCAC championship since 1995.
The Lakers currently hold a one-game lead over Owens and No. 12 Cincinnati State (21-5, 7-2) with four conference games remaining.
Lakeland will look to bounce back on Saturday when it travels to Sinclair for a 4 p.m. tip-off.

Montell Goodwin (Warrensville Heights, Ohio / Warrensville Heights) led the way with a team-high 20 points on seven of ten shooting. The freshman guard connected on all three of his attempts from beyond the arc as the Lakers shot 75% (9-12) from distance.
Hollis Alexander (Canton, Ohio / Canton McKinley) and Muhammed Alli (Edison, N.J.) each set career-highs with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Chris Scott (Cleveland, Ohio / Nordonia) posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds in just 21 minutes while sophomore forward Rasheed Howard (Elizabeth, N.J.) added 18 points in the win.
All 11 players saw at least ten minutes of action and put their name in the scoring column. The 121 points scored by the Lakers are the most since February 22, 2014 when they beat Edison by an almost identical score (122-71). Lakeland is currently third in the nation in scoring average at 92.6 points per game.

The Lakers, winners of six straight, improve to 15-5 overall and 6-0 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) entering Saturday's showdown at Columbus State at 3 p.m.
Davis scored a career-high 31 on the same day the sophomore guard was named NJCAA Division II player of the week. He finished eight of 20 from the floor including a pair from beyond the arc and is averaging 28 points per game over his last three.
Goodwin added 22 points including a late free throw with less than five seconds remaining to put the game away. The victory was Lakeland's sixth straight over its crosstown rival Cuyahoga dating back to the 2012-13 season.
Ken Evans (Cleveland, Ohio / Collinwood) added 18 points while Cristen Wilson (Cleveland, Ohio / John Hay) posted a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman forward Chris Scott (Cleveland, Ohio / Nordonia) chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds in the win.
The Lakers are currently sixth in the nation in scoring average at 89.6 points per game. They are averaging a conference-best 102.7 points per game in league play this season and have six players averaging double figures in OCCAC contests.

(January 28, 2015) – One day after receiving Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) honors, sophomore guard Mike Davis (Cleveland, Ohio / Garfield Heights) has been selected as the NJCAA Division II Player of the Week. Davis averaged 26 points per game in a pair of wins over nationally-ranked teams last week to help the Lakers (14-5, 5-0 OCCAC) remain unbeaten and in first place in the conference.
Davis is the first Laker to earn DII player of the week since Brendan Cooper (Parma, Ohio / Parma) on November 23, 2011.

KIRTLAND, Ohio (January 27, 2015) – Sophomore guard Mike Davis (Cleveland, Ohio / Garfield Heights) earned Ohio Community College Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors for the second time this season after guiding the Lakers to a pair of wins over nationally-ranked teams last week.
Davis averaged 26 points per game while leading his team to wins over No. 18 Owens Community College and No. 12 Cincinnati State Technical and Community College last week. He finished a combined 18-for-33 from the field, including a 6-for-13 finish from 3-point range. He was also 10-for-12 from the foul line while averaging 1.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game.
Against Cincinnati State, Davis had a career-high 30 points in a 97-82 win. Against Owens, he had 22 points.
Lakeland is 14-5 overall and 5-0 in OCCAC play. Davis is averaging 19.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.2 steals per game.

KIRTLAND, Ohio (January 24, 2015) – Sophomore guard Mike Davis (Cleveland, Ohio / Garfield Heights) came off the bench to score a career-high 30 points, Cristen Wilson (Cleveland, Ohio / John Hay) added a double-double, and the No. 20 Lakeland men's basketball team defeated a nationally-ranked opponent for the second straight game with Saturday's 97-82 victory over Cincinnati State. The Lakers improve to 14-5 overall and 5-0 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) with their fifth straight victory.
Days after defeating No. 18 Owens, Lakeland jumped out to a decisive 53-31 lead through the first 20 minutes and never looked back against the visiting Surge. Davis finished 11 of 18 from the floor and four of seven from beyond the arc while Wilson posted 21 points and a game-high 10 rebounds including seven on the offensive end.
Montell Goodwin (Warresnville Heights, Ohio / Warrensville Heights) added 14 points, four steals, and four assists in 33 minutes while sophomore Ken Evans (Cleveland, Ohio / Collinwood) chipped in 13 points and eight boards for the Lakers.

KIRTLAND, Ohio (January 21, 2015) – Seven players scored in double figures including all five starters as No. 20 Lakeland toppled the century mark for the third straight game and defeated No. 18 Owens, 103-95, in a matchup of nationally-ranked conference teams Wednesday night. The Lakers (13-5, 4-0) are the lone remaining unbeaten in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) play while the Express (15-5, 3-1) slip into a tie for second place just one game back.
Mike Davis (Cleveland, Ohio / Garfield Heights) led the way with a team-high 22 points while Ken Evans (Cleveland, Ohio / Collinwood) and Cristen Wilson (Cleveland, Ohio / John Hay) posted double-doubles for the Lakers. Evans finished with 12 points and a team-high 11 rebounds while Wilson added 14 and 10 to help Lakeland to its fourth straight win in league play.
Montell Goodwin (Warrensville Heights, Ohio / Warrensville Heights) and Chris Scott (Cleveland, Ohio / Nordonia) chipped in 17 and 13 points, respectively, in the victory.
Ahmid Williams (Monroe, N.J.) added ten points and connected on a pair of second half 3-pointers while classmate Rasheed Howard (Elizabeth, N.J.) also finished in double figures with ten points.
The two sides entered the half deadlocked at 46 and continued to go back-and-forth throughout the second half. A pair of Davis free throws followed by a fast break dunk by Evans gave the Lakers a ten point lead (83-73) with six minutes to go in the game and provided some breathing room for the hosts.
Scott effectively put the game away with a pair of free throws with 1:28 to go to give Lakeland its largest lead of the game at 99-83.
John Murry led the Express with a team-high 26 points while Kenny Jones finished with a double-double behind 24 points and a team-high 14 rebounds. Owens' second-leading scorer, Shaakir Lindsey, was held to just one point on 0-of-4 shooting despite entering the game averaging 16.9 points per game.
The Lakers welcome their second straight nationally-ranked opponent to the Athletic & Fitness Center when they host Cincinnati State (15-4, 2-1) on Saturday (Jan. 24) at 3 p.m.

KIRTLAND, Ohio (January 20, 2015) - Chris Scott and Jonessa Moore have been named the OCCAC player of the week selections for the week of Jan. 12-18 in men's and women's basketball, respectively.
Scott, a freshman forward, had career-highs in points (30) and rebounds (14) in a 107-91 win over Lorain County. He followed that up with 18 points and eight rebounds in a 117-86 win over Sinclair.

KIRTLAND, Ohio (January 17, 2015) – Six players scored in double figures as the Lakeland men's basketball team erupted for a season-high 117 points and eclipsed the century mark for the second time in as many games to defeat visiting Sinclair 117-86 on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers improved to 12-5 overall and 3-0 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play with the victory.
Mike Davis (Cleveland, Ohio / Garfield) led the Lakers with 19 points while Montell Goodwin (Warrensville Heights, Ohio / Warrensville Heights) and Chris Scott (Cleveland, Ohio / Nordonia) added 18 apiece with 22 and 24 minutes, respectively.
Freshman Cristen Wilson (Cleveland, Ohio / John Hay) chipped in 16 points in just 18 minutes while classmate Derrick Pulley (Cleveland Heights, Ohio / Cleveland Heights) was a perfect four of four from the floor en route to 13 points.
Ahmid Williams (Monroe, N.J.) dished out six assists and finished with six steals for Lakeland.
The win sets up a pivotal showdown with Owens on Wednesday night inside the Athletic & Fitness Center. The Lakers and Express will enter the game as the final two unbeaten teams in the OCCAC after No. 3 Cincinnati State fell to Cuyahoga on Saturday.

ELYRIA, Ohio (January 14, 2015) – The Lakeland men's basketball team poured in a season-high 107 points, led by a career-best 30 from freshman forward Chris Scott (Cleveland, Ohio / Nordonia), to cruise past host Lorain County 107-91 on Wednesday night. The Lakers placed six players in double figures including all five starters to improve to 11-5 overall and 2-0 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) play.
Scott finished with a double-double after connecting on 10 of 18 attempts from the floor and hauling in a career-high 14 rebounds. Sophomore guard Ahmid Williams (Monroe, N.J.) added a career-high 20 points on nine of 13 shooting.

PIQUA, Ohio (January 10, 2015) – Freshman Cristen Wilson (Cleveland, Ohio / John Hay) scored 21 points and hauled in 18 rebounds to power the Lakeland men's basketball team a 93-73 victory at Edison in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) opener for both sides Saturday afternoon. The Lakers placed four players in double figures, led by Montell Goodwin's (Warrensville Heights, Ohio / Warrensville Heights) 22 points, to extend their winning streak against the Chargers to 11 games. Lakeland's last loss to Edison came on February 14, 2009.
Freshman forward Chris Scott (Cleveland, Ohio / Nordonia) added 20 points on seven of 14 shooting to go along with nine rebounds in the victory. Sophomore Rasheed Howard chipped in 13 points and seven boards as Lakeland (10-5, 1-0 OCCAC) jumped out to a 54-37 halftime lead and never looked back.

KIRTLAND, Ohio (December 16, 2014) – Five players scored in double figures as the Lakeland men's basketball team set a season-high in points in a 98-85 victory over visiting Jamestown on Tuesday night inside the Athletic & Fitness Center.
The Lakers led wire-to-wire and shot 51% from the floor to improve to 7-3 overall with the win. Sophomore guard Mike Davis (Cleveland, Ohio / Garfield Heights) led all scorers with 26 points on seven of 14 shooting. Freshman Montell Goodwin (Warrensville Heights, Ohio / Warrensville Heights) added 18 points while sophomore guard Ahmid Williams (Monroe, N.J.) provided a spark off the bench with 16 points on four of six shooting from beyond the arc.
Forwards Chris Scott (Cleveland, Ohio / Nordonia) and Kenneth Evans (Cleveland, Ohio / Collinwood) added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Lakeland raced out to a 28-12 lead through the opening nine minutes before Jamestown cut the deficit to five in the closing seconds of the opening half. Williams' buzzer-beating 3-pointer gave the Lakers an eight point cushion at the break.
Lakeland's advantage ballooned to 19 (83-64) midway through the second half on a pair of Muhammed Alli (Edison, N.J.) free throws.
The Lakers held Ohndo Smith, who entered the game as the nation's leading scorer, to just 11 points on five of 12 shooting. Smith was averaging an NJCAA Division II-best 29.5 points per game entering Tuesday's contest.

The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for the Lakers, who fall to 6-3 on the season and will host Jamestown on Tuesday (Dec. 16) at 7:30 p.m. in the final home game of the fall semester.

(December 6, 2014) – Visiting Lakeland raced out to a 10-0 start and never looked back, avenging last week's loss to Mercyhurst North East with a convincing 91-73 victory on the road Saturday afternoon. Freshman forward Chris Scott (Cleveland, Ohio / Nordonia) chipped in 16 points and eight rebounds, six of which came on the offensive end, while sophomore forward Kenneth Evans (Cleveland, Ohio / Collinwood) added 13 points and seven boards off the bench.
The Lakers' lead ballooned to 20 with four minutes to go in the first half, but a late Saints run closed the gap to 13 (44-31) entering the halftime break.
The hosts threatened to pull even in the second half after a Johnell Free 3-pointer trimmed the deficit to just six (65-59) with eight minutes to go. The Lakers led by 21 with just over 13 minutes remaining in the second half before the Thunderwolves used a 12-4 run to make it 65-52. The visitors would chip away at the deficit and pull within seven (75-68) with three minutes to go before back-to-back layups from Howard and Ken Evans (Cleveland, Ohio / Collinwood) provided Lakeland with some breathing room.
Goodwin connected on a pair of late free throws to ensure Lakeland would enter this weekend's rematch with Mercyhurst North East with a victory. The Saints defeated the Lakers, 72-67, exactly one week ago. The two teams meet for the second and final time this season on Saturday (Dec. 6) at 3 p.m.

Justin Dobbs paced Mercyhurst North East with a team-high 21 points on nine of 21 shooting while Brandon Wilkins posted a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

KIRTLAND, Ohio (November 26, 2014) - Sophomore guard Mike Davis (Cleveland, Ohio / Garfield Heights) has been selected as the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Player of the Week for the week ending November 23, 2014 after scoring a team-high 25 points at No. 2 Oakland on Saturday.
Davis connected on nine of 16 attempts from the floor including three of six from beyond the arc. He was a perfect six of six from the charity stripe to go along with seven rebounds, two steals, and one assist in 32 minutes of action. The Lakers went on the road and fell to the nation's second ranked team, 88-74, to suffer their first loss of the young season.
The award marks the first Player of the Week selection for the Northern Illinois University transfer and first for a Lakeland student-athlete this season.

Lakeland won the TJ Memorial Classic title for the fifth time in the tournament's seven-year history.
KIRTLAND, Ohio (November 15, 2014) – Tournament MVP Montell Goodwin (Warrensville Heights, Ohio / Warrensville Heights) scored a career-high 24 points to help the Lakeland men's basketball team defeat visiting Erie, 89-82, and repeat as TJ Memorial Classic champions on Saturday afternoon. In a rematch of last year's title game, Lakeland (3-0) led the entire way and was up by as many as 23 points in the second half before withstanding a late Erie run to secure the win.
Goodwin also dished out a game-high five assists while all-tournament team selections Ahmid Williams (Monroe, N.J.) and Louis Cheers (Lorain, Ohio / Lorain) added 15 and 10 points, respectively. Williams finished four of five from beyond the arc and was a perfect 3-for-3 in the first half as Lakeland built a 50-36 lead after the first 20 minutes of play.
The Lakers largest lead of the game would come in the second half after a pair of free throws by Louis Cheers made it 68-45 with 13 minutes to go. Andre Diggs connected from deep to pull the visitors within six (88-82) with under 30 seconds to play, but Williams was able to put the game away with a pair of free throws on the ensuing possession.
Sophomore Mike Davis (Cleveland, Ohio / Garfield Heights) added 22 points and four assists off the bench in his first game of the season for LCC.
The win gives Lakeland the title for the fifth time in the seven year history of the TJ Memorial Classic. The Lakers are back in action Tuesday when they travel to Batavia, New York to take on Genesee at 7:30 p.m.

KIRTLAND, Ohio (November 7, 2014) – The Lakeland men's basketball team raced out to a commanding 52-23 lead at the half against nationally-ranked Lansing and held on for an 88-75 victory on Friday night inside the Athletic & Fitness Center. It was a tale of two halves for the Lakers (2-0), who held the Stars (1-1) to 22% shooting in the opening half but allowed the visitors to connect on 58% of their attempts over the final 20 minutes.
Cristen Wilson (Cleveland, Ohio / John Hay) posted his second double-double in as many games, finishing with 18 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. The freshman forward had 11 points and 11 rebounds in the first half alone.
Sophmore guard Ahmid Williams (Monroe, N.J.) led all scorers with a season-high 19 points to go along with a season-high six steals. Classmate Ken Evans (Cleveland, Ohio / Collinwood) and freshman Montell Goodwin (Warrensville Heights, Ohio / Warrensville Heights) added 10 points apiece in the victory.
Tracy Edmond paced Lansing with 14 points, all of which came in the second half after being held scoreless through the first 20 minutes.
Lakeland improved to 19-4 against schools from the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) dating back to the 2005-06 season and won its 11th straight against opposition from the Wolverine State.
The Lakers return to action on Friday at 8 p.m. when they host Henry Ford in the opening round of the 7th Annual TJ Memorial Classic on campus. A victory will move LCC into the championship game on Saturday at 4 p.m. against the winner of No. 2 Oakland and Erie.

Freshman forward Chris Scott (Cleveland, Ohio / Nordonia) added 17 points and seven rebounds while sophomore guard Ahmid Williams (Monroe, N.J.) chipped in 16 points and a career-high seven assists in the win.

Lakeland held a considerable 62-36 advantage on the glass and hauled in 27 offensive rebounds on the night. The Lakers took a 38-23 lead into the half after holding the Cougars to 25% shooting through the opening 20 minutes of play. The hosts shot 52% from the floor and 50% from beyond the arc to outscore the visitors 60-47 the second half. Genesee made just 12 attempts from the field over the final 20 minutes and saw nearly half their point total (21) come from the free throw line.
The Lakers return to action on Friday when they play host to No. 12 Lansing at 7:30 p.m. in a matchup of nationally-ranked teams. Lakeland received votes in the initial NJCAA Division II national poll which was released last week.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (October 28, 2014) – The Lakeland Community College men's basketball team received votes in the first NJCAA Division II poll released today by the national office, narrowly missing out on a preseason top-20 ranking for the third consecutive year. The Lakers entered the 2012-13 season as the nation's tenth-ranked team and were preseason No. 17 one year ago.
Lakeland returns five players from a year ago including a trio of starters as they look to return to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament after a two year hiatus.
The Lakers open the 2014-15 season in exactly one week when they host Genesee Community College at 7:30 p.m. inside the Athletic & Fitness Center.

MONO, Ontario (August 23, 2014) – Former Lakeland Community College All-American Brendan Cooper was selected fourth overall in the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada) draft on Saturday night by the Island Storm before being traded to the Halifax Rainmen on draft night. After a decorated collegiate career at Lakeland and Fairmont State University (NCAA Division II), Cooper will embark on a professional career in the NBL Canada beginning in early November.
Cooper was a dynamic all-around player for the Lakers, earning Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Newcomer of the Year honors as a freshman. As a sophomore, Cooper guided the Lakers to a District Championship and NJCAA Division II Final Four appearance en route to First Team All-OCCAC and First Team All-America accolades. The Parma, Ohio native helped propel the Lakeland men's basketball team to its most successful season in program history in 2012, which saw the Lakers go 27-9 and finished the season ranked fourth in the nation.
After Lakeland, Cooper attended Fairmont State where he was a two-year starter. As a junior, he earned Second Team All-West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) honors for the Fighting Falcons. In his final collegiate season, Cooper garnered Second Team All-Mountain East Conference (MEC) accolades after averaging 14.7 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.
Cooper's professional career will begin on Friday, November 7 when the Rainmen take on the Moncton Miracles at the Moncton Coliseum at 7 p.m.

KIRTLAND, Ohio (March 7, 2014) - Sophomore guard Marcus Fleming (Linden, N.J.) and freshman forward Rasheed Howard (Elizabeth, N.J.) were each selected all-conference by opposing coaches in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC). Fleming garnered first team honors while Howard earned a second team selection.
Fleming averaged 15.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 3.0 steals per game during conference play, leading the Lakers in three of the four categories. He reached double figures in scoring in all but two OCCAC games and finished first in the conference in total steals with 36 in 12 games.
Howard averaged 15.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game during conference play and reached double figures in scoring in all but two OCCAC games. In his first collegiate season, the freshman was fifth in the conference in made free throws and sixth in blocks with 14.
The duo played and started in all 12 OCCAC games, helping the Lakers go 6-6 in the conference en route to a fourth place finish.

Coaches Bios Description
Terry Bowe enters his 13th season associated with the Lakeland men's basketball program and his 10th as the head coach. Since his arrival, Lakeland has achieved unprecedented success, winning the program's first two District Championships in 2011 and 2012. Individual and team successes have come hand-in-hand under Bowe, as Lakeland is one of just two schools in the nation (NJCAA Div. II) to boast First Team All-Americans in 2011 and 2012 (Ray Chambers and Brendan Cooper).
Bowe's tenure with the Lakers began in 1999 as an assistant under Willis Brown. The Cleveland native took the reins as head coach in 2004 and led the Lakers to a 29-32 record through his first two years. The Lakers would go 38-10 from 2005-07 but remained at or near the .500 mark from 2007-09. The 2009-10 season saw the Lakers make the jump by posting a 19-12 record and finishing second in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC). Bowe was named OCCAC Coach of the Year following the season.
The 2010-11 season was a historical one, as Bowe and the Lakers went 24-12 en route to their first District Championship in program history. Lakeland advanced to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament where it finished eighth in the country.
Last year, Lakeland repeated as District Champions and once again advanced to the National Tournament. The Lakers won their first two games to advance to the Final Four before falling to eventual national champion Mott CC in the national semifinals. Lakeland finished the year with a 27-9 overall record, good for the most wins since the 1991-92 season.
Bowe leads the OCCAC in wins among active coaches and currently ranks second in school history with 166 victories. His playing career began at nearby Benedictine High School where he led the Bengals to a pair of regional and district finals. He went on to play four years at NCAA Division III Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio.
Bowe holds a Bachelor's Degree in Applied Communications and Human Resources from Baldwin-Wallace. He also earned a master's degree in Applied Communications and Methodology from Cleveland State University and a master's degree in Human Resources Management from Capella University.
He and his wife, Monica, live in Macedonia with their young daughter Kaia and the blessed memory of their son, TJ.
Bowe earned his 200th career victory on January 16, 2014, becoming just the second head coach in the 44-year history of Lakeland men's basketball to reach the mark.

Burge enters his first season as the assistant coach of the men's basketball team. Burge was a member of the men's basketball team at Lakeland from 1999-2001. He is a member of the Lakeland Community College Athletics Hall of Fame as he was inducted in the 2016 Hall of Fame class. After his playing career at Lakeland, Burge went on to play at Cleveland State University and Glenville State College (WV) before playing semi-professional basketball in Cincinnati and Cleveland.

Prior to Lakeland, Nealy was a three sport athlete at Copley, as he was a member of the football, basketball, and track teams. Nealy was named the 2016 suburban league player of the year for basketball, as well as being named third team all-state.
Prior to Lakeland, Burge went to Shaker Heights High School where he played varsity basketball for two years. Before that, he played one year of varsity basketball at Garfield Heights High School.
Prior to Lakeland, Lucky was a member of his high school basketball team, which won a state championship.
