**This is only a summary of the RESEARCH portion of the assignment, for complete instructions, see the original assignment sheet**
One of the criteria for your final project is to research and include historical information on refugee origin countries. This includes: conflict(s) during the assigned time period, regional impacts, and all influences for the refugee crisis (political, environmental, natural, resources, religions, etc.) All sources must be credible. You must use a minimum of five sources and cite them in APA style.
Research Outline
Complete an outline of the project's research topics; including the history of the area, what lead to the conflict, what is causing the fleeing, what re some external contributing factors, why are the refugees' destinations chosen and how are they getting there. This should be 2-3 pages using the information from the research done on the assigned topic area.
Final Map Portion must include text related to history, conflict information, and where and why of destination. Final Project Report must include background on the geography and surrounding areas, background on the conflict, triggers of the migration, outcome of the conflict, current status of the situation, and references.
Quotation Marks/Phrase Searching
Use quotation marks to search for a specific phrase, this narrows a search. Example: "displaced persons"
Boolean Operators: AND, OR, NOT
And—narrows a search by inclusion. Example: Rwanda and genocide
Or—expands a search. Example: refugees or "displaced persons"
Not—narrows a search by exclusion. Example: refugees not Syria*
Truncation
Truncation, usually using an asterisk*, increases the number of results you'll retrieve by searching for variant endings of a word root.
Example: immigra* will find: immigrant, immigration, immigrated
Your search strategy will combine keywords related to your topic using the search techniques described above. Here are a couple examples:
1. Vietnam* and (refugees or "displaced persons")
2. migra* and "civil war"
This search strategy is what you will type into the search box in a library database or Google to find CREDIBLE articles about your topic.

Tips & Tricks:
- Look at the article title AND the book title, a book about flags of the world will probably not be relevant to refugees.
- Not all books and articles are available electronically, use the key to determine if you have access.
- Pay attention to the word count, some articles are only 3 words long, others are 3000.
